    Helene Knott

    Journal Quilts

"Art Journal Quilts are little excursions into creativity. The destination can be to explore a new technique in a small, easy-to-complete format, or a medium to express a thought or feeling". Helene Knott

Helene will speak to us about Journal Quilts. Her presentation will focus on how smaller spaces allow for greater freedoms, in which we can play or experiment with design ideas, new materials, products, or techniques. She will share a collection of these fancies in her trunk show.

Here is Helene's bio - Born raised on the Monterey Peninsula in central California, I began my artistic journey early with pencils and paint. From there, in my mid teens, I made the leap to fabrics and never looked back. I find working with fabrics challenging and satisfying, and for the last 50 years, fiber art and quilting have been my primary mediums, but my art and drawing skills serve me well in these endeavors. My quilts have taken numerous awards in regional, national, and international shows, and one quilt – Evening Song – was featured on the cover of Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine in May of 1998. I have taught and lectured for the last 24 years. In 2006, I was nominated for Teacher of the Year Award by Professional Quilter Magazine, and have written several magazine articles for American Quilters Society and Asian Fabric Magazine. My work has appeared in books and public installations. I was a pattern designer for Story Quilts Inc. from 2004 to 2016, and have a number of patterns published by them.

      Ann Richardson

Janiacs. Janeites. Dear Jane. What does that all mean?

Ann began quilting in her 20's but quickly quit after hand piecing and quilting her first quilt. Years later, after acquiring her first sewing machine, it opened new pathways for her to create and complete a quilt - she was hooked. Yes, she even completed a Dear Jane Quilt!

Ann will take us into the world of the "Dear Jane" quilt made by Jane A. Stickle in 1863. The quilt was "discovered" by Brenda Papadakis, launching a movement in the quilt world over 20 years ago. We will examine the intricate patterns and unique aspects of the quilt and why this particular quilt still inspires contemporary and traditional quilter alike.

BONUS! Do you want to learn the techniques used in the Dear Jane Quilt? Jeanne Sellgren will be our instructor for a workshop on 6/13. You must register for the workshop. You can find those details in the events section of the website.
